Overall

Covers most of the basics fairly well - but doesn't rank tops in any single category.  Confusing site layout & high costs prevent a higher score.

True.com - Summary

The True.com personals service is does a good job at hitting just about every foundational component we cover.  They offer a legitimate personality profiling engine.  They have a capable compatibility tool that helps you find other singles.  They even do background checks on members to ensure only singles are in their known database.

What we didn't care for with True.com is the little elements that make an online service usable.  Their website was busy with fluff and seemed gimmicky.  They have advertisements in several areas, we were hit with pop -ups and site exits while navigating, and the site was so full of content it was hard to navigate.  It almost seems like True.com is trying to do too many things at once.

The result was a confusing experience with an otherwise capable service.

Features and Functionality

True.com offers some features that are nice to see and fairly unique:

  • The True.com Compatability Test - Personality Profile test that measures your lifestyle and emotional tendencies across 99 categories.  Endorsed by Psychology Today magazine.
  • Criminal Background Checks - All members go thru a national criminal background check.
  • Singles Only - True.com validates each member is not a married individual and actually takes steps to prosecute those who falsely claim to be single.

Its a reassuring to see a dating service take so many precautions to safeguard its members information and safety.  While many online singles are meeting grounds that offer little more than a photo billboard, True.com does all the things we look for to improve your odds of success and ensure your safety.  The steps needed to ensure your martial status are a little involved however - and may scare away even some legitimate users.

Editors Recommendation / Opinion

True.com is certainly a capable online dating service.  There's a lot we like with this program - but the overall presentment and experience is somewhat confusing.  We've also had some complaints that their stance on investigations is somewhat intimidating.  Website usability concerns along with a relatively higher cost than its competition prevent us from highly recommending True.com
